Formed in 1992, France’s Grindcore war machine Blockheads started by obviously releasing a demo in order to find a label and arrange gigs and soon decided to move on to a DIY workflow resulting in the release of two self-released full-length albums, 1995’s “Last tribe” and 1998’s “Watch out” with, in between, the release of a split 7” EP with Mastic Scum on Stuhlgang records (’97).
2000 saw the band being picked up by Bones Brigade records which offered them to broaden the exposure of their two first albums with re-releasing them both on a single CD compilation titled “From womb to genocide”.
In 2002, besides a split 7” EP with Nostromo, the third album, and label debut, “Human Parade” is released by Bones Brigade records. 20 tracks of raging old-school Grindcore at its best.
Such a great album couldn’t be left unnoticed and, consequently, then fast-growing French label Overcome records signed Blockheads for the release of its follower, 2006’s “Shapes of Misery”. Much more into Crustcore while still being firmly rooted in old-school Grindcore, the new album has been promoted by the release of a promotional split CD with Nostromo and Inside Conflict.
But, Overcome records was to close its doors as fast as it (attempted to) rose from the underground to a wider audience and Blockheads were left unsigned. Long time friends and supporters at Bones Brigade records signed them back and re-released the then quite stillborn album as Overcome didn’t really have the time to give it a proper distribution.
Being such a monster of crust-grinding socialy aware machine, “Shapes of Misery” eventually got picked up by two other labels to get a LP re-release in 2009 while, late 2008, Bones Brigade records released on these insane splits the label is know for, the “Blind” Blockheads / Mumakil split CD that Relapse records would also pick up for a 7” re-release on early 2010 year that also saw the band (self-) releasing their debut DVD, “Grind overdose” and taking part to tributes to Nasum and Repulsion
