Costes

Biography

Jean-Louis Costes is a French performer, writer, director, actor and musician mostly known for his trash and violent performances based on a ferocious social critic and an unchallenged, insane, taste for sexual and self-abuse and a particular taste for corporal fluids (shit, sperm, blood, vomit), like his 2002/3 world tour of “Le cultre de la vierge”, a social-porn performance with Giulio Nesi and Marie-Claire Cordat in which holy Mary is depicted as a sex doll.

He also took part in the underground cult movies “Baise-moi” (V. Despentes & Coralie Trinh Thi), “Irréversible” (G. Noé) and “Haram” (A. Syphilis). Besides his career as an actor and performer, he released 35 albums and countless audio and video tapes. As a director, he made five full-length movies and about 20 short ones. As a writer, his debut book, “Viva la merda!” is published in 2003, followed in 2006 by “Grand-père” then “Un bunker en banlieue”, in 2008.

He had numerous encounters with French justice for supposedly racists lyrics and texts, all of which he won, helping the French population (re-)gaining a bit more freedom of speech.

Late 2008, he forms Costes and the Krishees with electro pop duet Krisha while late 2009 he agrees to release, on Bones Brigade records, a split tape with the Gronibard dudes which have all been heavy listeners of Costes’ music for years and met with him some years ago. The release date is yet unknown but expect the Hellish and blasphemous gory bastard to be unleashed upon mankind on late 2010 / early 2011.
