Jane Fonda Leads All-Star Zoom Workout Class to “Exercise That Vote”

Jane Fonda dusted off her leotard and leg warmers for a good cause.

The actress and activist slipped back into her spandex to lead a very retro “Ballot Blaster” workout video over Zoom to encourage voter registration, with a group of all-star fitness fanatics in attendance. In the promotional clip, Fonda, in a red bodysuit and matching sweatband, says, “Hello class, we’re bringing back the movement. We need you to be in shape for the upcoming race. I need you to be strong. I need you to be laser-focused. I need you to be fully committed to the task at hand. So let’s get ready to exercise our right to vote!”

Fonda’s pro-Democracy programming, operating under the guise of the kind of 80s workout VHS she helped define, was virtually attended by fellow electoral enthusiasts Kerry Washington, Shaquille O’Neal, Amy Schumer, Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Benson. The video, made in partnership with Register2Vote, is meant to encourage as many Americans as possible to register to vote before the cutoff deadline, which for most states comes in early October. While all of these stars take poll turnout seriously, it was clear some felt less than enthusiastic about the workout portion of the commitment. Like new mom Katy Perry, who instead of calisthenics opted to pump breast milk and snack on a chocolate bar while watching her fiancé Orlando Bloom pump iron on her behalf.
