Vonn, who turns 36 years old in October and is engaged to current New Jersey Devils star P.K. Subban, explained what prevented her from racing during a recent appearance on “In Depth with Graham Bensinger.”

“I was thinking about switching, going to Formula One,” Vonn said, per TMZ Sports. “Like actually trying to be a racer, a driver. But, I couldn’t because they wanted me to commit, what was it, three years? And, they’re like ‘you can’t get pregnant, you can’t do anything.’ I’m like ‘hmm, I don’t know if I really want to do that.'”

“‘I don’t think you understand,'” she says she was told. “‘You have to fully commit.’ And I’m like ‘hmm, OK. I guess I’m not doing that.'”

Vonn added that Red Bull Racing would’ve presented her with an opportunity to compete in Formula One, and that she also would’ve pursued driving in NASCAR.

“I think probably the salary of one racer is probably the total amount of money that ski racing has for their annual budget as a sport,” she said. “I bet Lewis [Hamilton] makes more money than all of ski racing combined.”

Forbes listed Hamilton as the 13th highest-paid athlete in the world for 2020.

Vonn retired from ski racing in February 2019 after dealing with long-time knee injuries.
