Only one new case of COVID-19 reported by health unit

There was only one new local confirmed case of COVID-19 on Saturday reported by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.

The origin of the case is unknown as it remains under investigation.

The health unit has added two locations for possible potential virus exposure. The Bridging North America Corporate office at 35 Prospect Ave. between Sept. 14 to 18 and Movati Athletic fitness club at 650 Division Rd. on Sept. 16 and 17.

Overall, there have now been 2,645 confirmed cases of the virus in the local area with 76 deaths. Among those cases 2,493 are now listed as resolved.

One retirement home remains listed as having an outbreak, but no schools or workplaces.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 numbers continue to spike in the GTA and Ottawa areas.

The province overall reported 435 new cases of the virus on Saturday, according to the health ministry. Among those are 131 new cases in Toronto with 110 in Peel and 45 in Ottawa. Of the new cases, 64 per cent of those were under the age of 40.
