What Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Have Said About Losing Baby After Pregnancy Complications

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have lost their baby following pregnancy complications, the couple announced on social media.

“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” they said in a shared statement posted to both of their Twitter accounts.

Model and TV personality Teigen, 34, was taken to hospital Sunday where she revealed she was being treated for excessive bleeding due to a weak placenta during her third pregnancy.

“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions,” today’s statement reads. “It just wasn’t enough.”

The couple named their son Jack, and explained that while they never usually decide on a name until after the birth, the name just stuck.

“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever,” they wrote.

Teigen and Legend are parents to has two children, Luna and Miles, who were both conceived through IVF. Their third pregnancy happened naturally, which is something Teigen said she wasn’t sure was possible in the past.

They added: “To our Jack—I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”

The post was accompanied by a black and white photo of a tearful Teigen in her hospital bed.

They also addressed their “wonderful babies” Luna, 4, and Miles, 2, and thanked supporters for “positive energy, thoughts and prayers” before saying they will now be taking some time to grieve.

“We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience,” they wrote. “But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.”

Teigen later tweeted: “Driving home from the hospital with no baby. How can this be real.”

There has been an outpouring of support for the couple on Twitter, with legions of fans and well-wishers offering their condolences through such a heartbreaking time for the family.

Over on Instagram, many of the couple’s famous friends have offered love and support.
