This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were a little unsure, when they learned one of the segments for Wednesday’s show.
But Dr Philippa Kaye soon revealed all, as she discussed thing that a woman should never do to her vagina.
She began discussing different products women have been buying, believing they will help their bodies especially during periods.
From items used to clean inside the vagina, to home remedies that supposedly prevent thrush, Philippa highlighted some of the things women do that are really not necessary.
She soon explained why it was never a good idea for women to put any food in or around their vulva, and the risks that it carries.
Speaking on the show, she encouraged women not to use products or remedies for cleaning as their bodies “will naturally do this on its own”.
She explained: “The first one people might have heard of is a brush to help remove menstrual blood and other debris, they are about the size of a toothbrush.”
A stunned Holly asked: “This is meant to go inside the vagina and clean round?”
Philippa replied: “Inside during your period to help sweep everything out… you do not need to do this your, body will naturally do this on its own, it cleans itself.”
Host Phillip then repeated the segment title which asked what women should not do to their vagina, before asking if it was “pretty much everything”.
Dr Philippa agreed, before revealing the “harm” it could do instead.
She said: “It could do you harm, and that also includes the home remedies that a lot of people might have heard of.
“Things like yogurt on tampons for thrush, or garlic because it has some antibacterial properties.
“If you put food inside your vagina it is going to macerate and rot, and it is going to increase your risk of infection.”
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
